Here are the steps:
1. Open Appleworks
Begin a new DRAWING document. Go to File then New then Drawing.
Give it a file name by going to File then Save.
2. Add Your Picture
Use the card reader with the camera's memory card to load your pictures onto your laptop.
OR
Go to the Mahoney website (mahoney.spsd.org).
Find Mrs. Collett’s name in the Teachers’ Pages.
Find your photo, then hold CTRL and click on the image.
Choose Download Image to Disk and save it on your desktop.

3. Size Your Picture
Drag the picture onto your workpage and let go.
Click on one of the corner boxes of the picture and drag it in until it fits into the middle of the page.
You can resize this later if you find you need more room for text on the page.
4. Add Text Boxes
Make sure the Tools are showing on the left of your window – if not, click on Window in the top menu and choose “Show Tools.”
Click on the top left tool which has a large blue A.
Click and drag a box for text on your page.
5. Type Your Text
Type in the text box just as you would in any document. Change font size and style using the tools in the top menu.
When done with the first text box, click on the blue A again and draw another text box somewhere else on the page for more typing.
6. Extras
If you have time and space on the page, you can add more images. In AppleWorks, go to File and choose Show Clippings. Click on Search with the “Search Web Content” box checked and you’ll find lots of clipart that you can drag onto your page.
More Clipart
For a full selection of clipart, go to http://dgl.microsoft.com. Search for a topic, then click once on any image you want. When it opens in its own window, hold CTRL and click to get the command to Copy. Then paste it on your page.
Finish
Be sure to save your file often. When you are done, save it on your laptop and take a minute to save a copy on the network.
Use the backup folder on your desktop with your network name on it.
