The Process
1. Each student will have a
hard copy of the 5 worksheets for a reference. You will each pass in
one completed copy of each
worksheet.
2. To do the work, you will need to be in a group of three. Each person will have a role. One will be the recorder, one the navigator and one the time keeper. You may take turns at each role, but be sure you know who is doing what!
The recorder will
write down the information that the group decides will be on the forms.
The navigator will operate the computer
and navigate the internet.
The time keeper will be in charge of keeping
everyone on task.
3. Complete Worksheet One.
Stanley's ancestors immigrated from Latvia. Where did your
ancestors come from? Go to the Ellis Island website and do a passenger
search for one of your
ancestors. You may need to ask parents or
grandparents for exact names. If you find a
relative that immigrated to the US via Ellis
Island, write down all the information you can find
about him or her. Here is another web site
to look for long lost relatives.
From the websites and interviewing family
members, try to complete the family tree.
4. Complete Worksheet Two. Stanley is sent
Camp Green Lake to be "reformed'. Find out
information about juvenile facilities here in Maine
and those in Teaxs. How does the real
picture compare to Stanely's experience? Maine Juvenile Corrections
